2. Meeting of the USA Vielhauer Family on June 9, 2007in Shawnee KS, USA
On Jan. 12, 1837, Heinrich Vielhauer was born in Freinsheim in the county of Pfalz as the son of Christian Vielhauer and his wife Katharina Elisabeth. He left Germany in the year 1867/68 and in Detroit married Margarethe Rupprecht who was born on April 20, 1848 in Freinsheim. He died on November 8, 1888 in East St. Louis, Illinois.
This couple had 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 103 great-great-grandchildren, 110 great-great-great-grandchildren. The generation of children and grandchildren is already dead. The next three generations met on Saturday June 9, 2007 in Shawnee KS. All together there were 122 people – 75 grownups and 47 children. One visitor came from Germany.
An elaborate program and a buffet with many choices allowed the family members to have a wonderous time. Everyone was wearing the T-shirt with a crest on the front and “Vielhauer Reunion 2007 Shawnee, KS” on the back. The crest comes from the Feilenhauer-Guild in Nürnberg. Feilenhauer means “file hitter”. This is a job where iron files are hand crafted.
Just as three years before, the next Vielhauer reunion will take place in 3 years in Shawnee, KS.
